Princess of Acadia: in retirement

The Princess of Acadia tied up at pier 3 on Saint John's west side on July 31, 2015.  The irony here is that the ship's fate could more than likely be like the pile of scrap steel next to the ferry.

It's been one week since the Princess of Acadia has been retired from the Digby-Saint John route and I will always remember the great, safe, and reliable service she gave us over 44 years and almost 2 months.  The ferry has set the bar high for her many years of reliable service and it has not gone un-noticed by me over the years I have traveled on her.  So what fate would she have?  Another buyer (for use as a ferry or floating attraction) would be nice, however, given the age of the ship, she would more than likely be scrapped.  Just where could be the question.  Maybe in Port Colburne, or could it be in a big ship scraping yard like in India.  All I know, she did serve us well and proudly for many years, however, the need of a newer ferry was there for a while and, now, we do have a newer ship.  Forever missed, forever remembered.  Fair winds and calm seas.
