One week after the 3 proposals were announced, here's my thoughts on the latest proposals. The three companies are Balearia Caribbean (Bahamas), P&O Ferries (United Kingdom) and STM/Quest (Quest navigation out of Maine, one of the first companies to submit an RFP but rejected in March). To me, P&O Ferries has the upper hand as they have over 100 years of experience running cruise ferries (and how to market them) as well as operating freight and high speed vessels (no, we won't see one of those high speed jet powered ferries again around here) around Europe. I honestly hope they do have the contract to run a Yarmouth-Portland ferry next summer and look forward to whatever decision would be made.
